Kuantan youth saves dog from drowning in monsoon drain

safe-dogPETALING JAYA: Not many people would willingly jump into a monsoon drain, but for a youth in Kuantan who saw a dog trying to stay afloat, it was a no-brainer.

In a 26-second clip uploaded by Facebook user Ivy Teo, the youth is seen hanging on to the railings along the drain and trying to catch the dog with his legs.

After several attempts, he succeeds in pinning the dog between his legs and lifts the hapless animal out of the water. His friends, who are seen waiting along the railing, reach down and help pull the dog to safety.

Teo told Sin Chew Daily that the dog had fallen into the drain after trying to avoid an oncoming car.

“On that day, there were quite a number of dogs near the monsoon drain. The dog fell into the drain after it was startled by a vehicle. Due to the depth it had to keep swimming to stay afloat,” she was quoted as saying.

In her Facebook post, made on April 7, she praised the youth for his act, thanking “this Indian brother” for saving the dog.
