PETALING JAYA: If you live in Batu Pahat, Johor, be careful when opening the front door to women who look like nurses – they might not have your health in mind.
Police said two women have been masquerading as nurses, pretending to offer free health checks to gain entrance into homes in Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng. Once they’re in, though, they proceed to rob residents of their valuables and then flee the scene, The Star reported.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Wahib Musa said there had been two cases reported thus far.
He told the daily that the women’s modus operandi was to approach residents, claiming to be from the district health department. They would tell victims to remove their jewellery and valuables, wrap themselves in a towel and lie flat on their stomachs.
After that, one woman would perform the “health check” while the other combed the house for more valuables.
The women would then tell the victims they had to get equipment from the car and would then make their getaway, Wahib was quoted as saying by The Star.
The women are said to be dressed in pink and white uniforms and travelling in a silver-coloured car.
Wahib advised members of the public not to fall for scams involving free services by those who claimed to be civil servants, saying their identity should always be verified.
