AMPANG: Hours after being charged with rioting during a Bersih roadshow last year, Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos is demanding why there has been no similar action against his alleged assaulters.
“Why aren’t those who provoked us facing action?” he asked after posting bail at the Sessions Court here.
“I was told no investigation was done against Zuraida,” he added, referring to Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin who, he claims, was responsible for the scuffle which left him with a bloody nose.
Jamal said he would go to the nearest police station to lodge a police report demanding that action be taken against Zuraida.
“I will go immediately after this (press conference),” he added.
In the incident which took place last November, Jamal was punched on the nose during a tussle between the Red Shirts and police.
After initially blaming the police for hitting him, he later accused Zuraida and her people of causing the incident. He was subsequently slapped with a defamation suit from Zuraida, who is also PKR Wanita chief.
Today, Jamal and his nine followers were charged with rioting during a Bersih 5 roadshow here on Nov 13 last year.
They also face an alternative charge of insulting behaviour under the Minor Offences Act.
In an immediate response, Zuraida said she was open to investigations if Jamal were to make any police report against her.
“The fact that the police went after him shows that he clearly made the wrong move. That was why the police called him and not me, because they know I was not in the wrong,” she said.
