PETALING JAYA: A local consultant urologist says Malaysian women above 40 tend to have more sex, especially after menopause, reported The Star today.
Professor Dr George Lee from the Gleneagles Hospital in Kuala Lumpur said post-menopausal women have more sex as they need not worry about unwanted pregnancy.
“Studies have shown that women over 40 have sex on an average of eight times a month compared to those below 40 who have sex an average of six times a month,” The Star quoted Lee as saying during a talk on “What The Facts of Sexual Habits” on Friday.
He said most women did not want to be on the birth control pill because they were afraid of gaining weight, while most men did not want to wear condoms. So many middle-aged couples in Malaysia avoid sex altogether as they find these factors make sex a little bit “risky”.
Lee said most people assume that once women have reached menopause, they no longer have sex. However, he said, studies have shown that a women’s sex life gets enhanced after menopause.
“Older women have fewer things to worry about, and that allows them time for themselves and sex,” said Lee.
He said after reaching menopause, women were more confident and they let go and enjoy sex a lot more, adding that older women had fewer things to worry about, which allowed them time for themselves and sex.
He said once the children were in university, the house and finances had been taken care off, the women had fewer worries, and it was much easier for them to enjoy sex.
