19 students stranded on Fraser’s Hill rescued

Bomba-Bukit-FraserRAUB: Raub Fire and Rescue Department personnel rescued 19 students who lost their way while climbing up Fraser’s Hill yesterday.

The group of 12 men and seven women from the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, realised they were lost almost four hours after hiking through Bishop’s trail and continuing up Maxwell’s trail at 3pm yesterday.

“One of them contacted the department at 6.45pm to inform us that they were lost and three members of the team could not move due to the cold temperature,” said Raub Fire and Rescue Department chief Khairul Anuar Yaakob.

“The search and rescue operation began at 8.20pm and we found all of them safe an hour later,” Khairul said.

He said his team brought the hikers down to safety at about 10pm, adding that the operation received assistance from three local residents and seven policemen.
