KUALA LUMPUR: The KL Putra World Trade Centre (KL PWTC) project will see Umno moving its national headquarters to a brand new 70-storey tower by 2020.
Bernama reported that the tower will also house offices, a six-star hotel with 250 rooms, restaurants and a shopping podium.
It will reportedly be built on the site of the Hentian Putra Bus Terminal and carpark.
Besides the tower, the KL PWTC project will feature a 5,000-capacity mosque and see the revamp of the Merdeka Hall and Menara Dato Onn, where the Umno headquarters are currently located, The Star said.
According to Bernama, the project was launched last night and witnessed by over 150,000 Umno members who gathered at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium for the party’s 71st anniversary celebration.
To symbolise the launch, Umno president Najib Razak placed the Quran and a “keris” on a special place on the stage, where a large screen showed a visual representation of the project and the ongoing construction work.
Najib had on Nov 29 last year officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the project.
