SUBANG JAYA: PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli unveiled volume one of his three-volume series of books entitled “A Guide to Rebuilding Our Nation (Vol. 1)” today.
Speaking at the book launch at Empire Hotel Subang, Rafizi said his hope is that the book will change the way policies are made in the country.
“I hope this book democratises the process of coming up with policies.
“The process has so far been confined to a small percentage of politicians.”
He said a friend had told him that it was a bad idea to publish the book before the elections out of fear that its ideas would be stolen by competing parties.
“I think we have to stop thinking like that. Regardless of whether Barisan Nasional (BN) or any other party takes up these ideas, and they help them get elected, then so be it. At the end of the day, the biggest winners will be the man on the ground.”
According to Rafizi, the subsequent volumes will be released every two months, with the next volume to be released in July.
His first book will deal with economic and market labour reforms while the second will deal with political, civil service and anti-corruption reforms.
“Space will be given for the public to respond and give their feedback on the book. We will conduct research based on their suggestions and contact political parties regarding what the public is asking for to get their endorsement.
“I will reveal who agrees with the public and who doesn’t.
“If there are politicians from BN who agree, the people will know. If there are politicians from Pakatan Harapan who disagree, the people will know. You will no longer be able to hide behind a logo.”
The research behind the book was conducted by Invoke’s Center for Policy Initiatives (I-CPI).
