Viral video of ‘abducted woman’ false alarm

KUALA LUMPUR: Messages and video clips which went viral on social media, alleging that a woman was abducted by a group of men in Jalan Sultan Ismail here have been proven to be a false alarm.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said the “victim” in the video was a 23-year-old Indonesian, who was a suspected thief residing in Gombak.

“The woman who had worked as a maid was apprehended by her previous employer and handed over to the police at the Gombak police headquarters,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

The video clip which lasted one minute, 22 seconds went viral on social media, showing a woman being approached by a group of men and taken to a white car.

The woman tried to escape but was soon overpowered by the men and bundled into the vehicle.
