KUALA LUMPUR: PKR MP R Sivarasa has lashed out at Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor for “knowingly lying” about the former making a political speech in a mosque last week.
“He still insists on repeating the lie that I made a political speech although I had already explained clearly,” he said when met at the Jalan Duta court complex today.
Yesterday, Tengku Adnan labelled Sivarasa “a political addict” who could not resist giving a political talk even in a house of worship.
“This is the kind of addict who has no programmes, never meets the people but, when they do, they get hooked and will do anything to kick their addiction,” the minister said at a breaking of fast event in the carpark of Masjid Jamek Alam Shah, Cheras.
Pictures of Sivarasa’s speech inside the Kampung Melayu An-Nur Mosque Kampung last Wednesday sparked off criticisms of the MP for allegedly using a place of worship for his political purpose.
Following the revelation, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) director Haris Kasim said it would investigate the incident which had upset the state ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Sivarasa later explained in a statement that he only made a brief speech to convey “Ramadan greetings” during the event held to hand over contributions to mosques and surau in his constituency.
He also said he was preparing a personal letter of explanation to the sultan which would be sent as soon as it was ready.
