Nhaveen’s music hero prayed for his recovery

PETALING JAYA: Minutes before T Nhaveen succumbed to his injuries at the Penang Hospital today, his hero, AR Rahman, had sent him a message on Twitter praying for his recovery.

“Dear Nhaveen, prayers & love for a speedy recovery. Let all acts of savagery end & people come to senses. Peace!” the double-Oscar and Grammy Award winner said in a tweet which was accompanied by a screenshot of an FMT news item on the teenager.

Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said police were notified by the hospital that Nhaveen, 18, had died at 6pm. Rahman had posted the tweet at 5.30pm the same day.

Rahman had also shared a link to FMT’s report in which Nhaveen’s relative revealed that the teenager had aspired to be like the world-famous music composer.

Nhaveen was supposed to leave for Kuala Lumpur on Monday to enrol in a college for a music-composing course.

However, he was brutally assaulted and sodomised on Friday night.

He suffered internal bleeding and injuries to his abdomen and private parts. He also had cigarette burn marks on his back, and his anus had been penetrated with a blunt object.

He was placed at the brain-related intensive care unit of Penang Hospital and was later declared brain-dead.
