3 killed, 5 injured in Pasir Puteh accident


PASIR PUTEH: Three youths were killed and five others injured when a Proton Iswara car collided with a Proton Persona in Kampung Bukit Tanah here early today.

Police identified the deceased as the driver of the Proton Iswara, Ahmad Amirul Razali, and two passengers in the cars, Che Muhammad Syafiq Che Suriadi and Amir Amjad Zuhar. All three were aged 19.

They were pronounced dead on arrival at the Tengku Anis Hospital here.

Pasir Puteh district police chief DSP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the crash occurred at about 1.30am when Ahmad Amirul, who was heading towards Pasir Puteh from Kota Bharu, lost control of the wheel, causing the car to skid and veer into the path of the Proton Persona which was coming from the opposite direction.

“Those injured were another passenger in the Proton Iswara, Muhammad Idzzat Haiqal Mohd Ridzuan, 19, and four people in the Proton Persona, namely its driver, Muhammad Norsalam Mohd Salleh, 19, passengers Siti Noor Hanif Farhani Mohd Salleh, 23, Nurizah Nabihah Mohd Salleh, 15, and Wan Zanariah Wan Mohd Mahayidin, 57,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Rozak said the injured victims were sent to the same hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, in Pasir Mas, Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department training division acting assistant director Azani Aziz was killed in an accident in Kampung Atas Pinggir here today.

Pasir Mas district police chief ACP Ibrahim Saad said in the 8am incident, the 48-year-old was riding his motorcycle to work in Tunjong, Kota Bharu, when he crashed into a Perodua Kelisa car which was making a sudden U-turn.

He said Azani, who had been with the Fire and Rescue Department for 22 years, was thrown off his motorcycle and died at the scene.

State Fire and Rescue Department director Nazili Mahmood, when met at the Pasir Mas Hospital Forensic Unit, described Azani as a highly committed staff member.
