‘Wrong way’ teen driver: Case postponed to Aug 3

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Magistrate’s Court here set Aug 3 for mention of a case involving a teenager who drove against traffic and caused the death of a man on March 14.

Judge Jamaliah Abd Manap set the date after the accused’s lawyer, Parmjit Singh Mahinder, failed to appear in court today.

Jamaliah reminded the accused, Ng Pei Ven, 19, to ensure the presence of her lawyer on Aug 3 to ensure the smooth running of court proceedings.

Ng was charged under Section 44 (1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years. She can be fined not more than RM20,000 and may be banned from driving for five years.

She allegedly drove against traffic for five kilometres from the Sungai Dua toll plaza to Butterworth at 7.50am on March 14.

Her car crashed into a Perodua Kelisa, killing the driver, Mohamad Fandi Rosli, 26.
