PETALING JAYA: Another girl from Kampung Lebur, one of the five villages categorised as a rabies-infected area in Serian, has been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching after she developed symptoms related to the virus.

“The victim hails from the same village as the third victim who had the virus,” said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim.

“The hospital has already conducted a blood test. We will have to wait for the result before any confirmation could be made,” the New Straits Times quoted Rohani as saying.

The girl has shown some similar symptoms of rabies infection and was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), she told reporters after visiting the third victim today.

Rohani, however, declined to further elaborate as the case has not been confirmed yet.

Three children from the Serian district were infected with rabies and two of them, a six-year-old girl and her four-year-old brother, died at the Sarawak General Hospital on Tuesday.

On the condition of the third victim, Rohani said the seven-year-old girl remained in critical condition.
