One dead in Bintulu tanker explosion

lorry-accident-sabahMIRI: A man was killed in an explosion after an oil tanker’s load spilled when the vehicle hit the road divider and overturned at the traffic light junction in Medan Central, Bintulu, at 12.10pm today.

Bintulu police chief Supt Zailanni Amit said the victim, Martin Joshua, 31, was found underneath a Toyota Fortuner four-wheel-drive vehicle which was also destroyed in the incident.

“When the incident happened, the oil tanker was travelling quite fast from the direction of Kidurong heading to Tanjung Batu,” he said in a statement.

Zailanni said when the tanker was negotiating the corner, it hit the road divider and overturned, which caused its load to explode.

He added that the burning oil tanker caused five vehicles and a motorcycle which stopped at the traffic light junction to also catch fire.
