Be wary of ‘villain’ Dr Mahathir, says Penang Umno chief

GEORGE TOWN: An Umno leader warned the opposition today that their new ally Dr Mahathir Mohamad is someone who cannot be trusted, as he has a proven track record of running down prime ministers and their deputies in his political career.

Penang Umno chief Zainal Abidin Osman said Dr Mahathir’s ever switchable personality from “hero to villain” and a “villain to hero” was apparent, too, suggesting that he might even return to Umno again.

“We have seen Mahathir’s wayang and sandiwara statements of late. Hopefully everyone is entertained so far.

“But let’s not forget he has turned from a hero to a villain, and may destroy our country’s future.

“He (Mahathir) feels that he is the only one who is right. The one who knows it all. This started 50 years ago and it’s sad to see a country elder like this,” Zainal said at the state Umno open house at Macalister Road today.

Zainal said Mahathir had previously gone against the first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, then Hussein Onn, followed by Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and currently, is trying to bring down Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Zainal said the opposition should not put their hopes too high as he will make many about-turns which might be disastrous for them in the end.

“Please do not forget, he has left Umno three times. You never know, he might enter Umno again? Does the opposition want to believe in such a person?

“Do not be influenced by what Mahathir says. He has made one too many U-turns before and this would be no different.”
