PETALING JAYA: Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali today dismissed a challenge from Noh Omar to contest in Tanjung Karang, saying the Umno minister is not a suitable match for him.
If he were to contest against anyone, Azmin said, it would be Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“My match is Najib. Who is Noh Omar? He is a mere ‘cicak mengkarung’ (grass lizard).
“If I were to go up against someone, it would have to be Najib,” he said when met after attending PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin’s Hari Raya open house today.
Azmin said he had no intention to leave his stronghold of Gombak, but that if there was a view for him to move to another constituency, for strategic purposes, he would choose Pekan.
Noh, who is also Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman, had reportedly issued a challenge to Azmin to contest the Tanjung Karang parliamentary seat.
The New Straits Times reported that this came about after Azmin’s recent statement in which he said he would rather go after the Pekan seat in Pahang if he ever decided to forgo Gombak for another parliamentary seat.
Noh asked why Azmin would want to contest in Pekan when Tanjung Karang was much nearer.
He also told the PKR deputy president not to trouble himself going all the way to Pekan when he could just contest in Tanjung Karang.
