KUALA LUMPUR: The Orchid Run and Ride 2017, which emphasises a healthy lifestyle among Malaysians, is back on Sept 24 for the third year running.
The race aims to raise RM250,000 that will be channelled towards its beneficiaries, namely the Paediatric and Congenital Heart Centre (PCHC) of the National Heart Institute (IJN), Institut Pendengaran dan Pertuturan (I-HEARS) and the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and the Federal Territory.
With the tagline “Making Each Step Matter”, the run, organised by the Association of Wives and Women Staff of Petronas (Petronita), will take place at Persiaran KLCC and is expected to draw 7,000 participants.
“We are grateful that the funds raised from Orchid Run and Ride 2016 were able to help improve the well-being of the recipients.
“The event is a collaborative effort and its success is dependent on the continuous support from the public, our partners and contributors,” said Petronita president Azura Ahmad Tajuddin in a statement today.
The race, which will flag-off at 6.30am, is divided into two main categories, namely Category A: 12km Competitive Men’s and Women’s Open (for 16 years and above) and two sub categories under Category B, namely the 5km Fun Run (for 7 years and above) and 5km Fun Ride (for 12 years and above).
Azura said the response to this year was encouraging as registration for Category B was sold out.
“We wish to drive the message of ‘Making each step matter’, the theme chosen this year to serve as a reminder that a little goes a long way. Everyone should join us and help the less fortunate while at the same time promote a healthy lifestyle.”
Those interested to take part are encouraged to sign up immediately to secure their spot before the Aug 15 final registration date.
