Zahid: Reject opposition pact led by ‘gila talak’ leader

KOTA BHARU: Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the people should reject the opposition pact which is now led by a leader, whom he described as “gila talak” (wanting to come back to power).

He also likened the opposition pact to a ship with three captains, all with different directions, waiting to sink.

“I think the time has come for the people to reject this pact which is led by a leader who has lost his followers,” he said when speaking at an event at the Kelantan Poverty Foundation Complex in Melor here today.

The event drew a crowd of about 20,000 people. Among those present were Umno Information chief Annuar Musa, who is also Ketereh MP, Kelantan Umno Liaison chairman Mustapa Mohamed and his deputy Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

Zahid, who is also Umno vice-president, said the people should reject the leader who had been given 22 years to lead as his time was now over.

He said this particular leader should be a respected statesman, instead of making claims that the present leadership was not right for the people.

“Every leader has his own era and his time is over. Do not meddle in politics, leave it to us,” he added.

Zahid said he hoped the people understood the principle of togetherness among Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties.

“BN is a political marriage which is permanent, not a ‘mutaah’ marriage,” he added.
