Khairy says Pakatan is power hungry, nothing more

KEPALA BATAS: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin says Pakatan Harapan is only interested in achieving one goal for themselves – that of becoming powerful.

He said the two top leaders of the pact, chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad and de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, both former Umno members, were willing to betray the party they once belonged to for the sake of obtaining power for themselves.

“The principles of Pakatan Harapan have got nothing to do with the future of the country. They are only working together so each can become powerful. Mahathir and Anwar Ibrahim were former Umno leaders and now they are trying to break up Umno and the Malays.

“We cannot have a government established on the basis and principle of wanting power, because it is not a sound foundation for any party,” he said when opening the Kepala Batas Umno Division delegates’ meeting here today.

Apart from Mahathir and Anwar, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is president of Pakatan Harapan while Lim Guan Eng, Mohamad Sabu and Muhyiddin Yassin are the coalition’s deputy presidents.

Khairy said all the progress and harmony that the ruling Barisan National (BN) sustained for 60 years would be destroyed if the country was run by a party or coalition that craved power.

Describing the coming general election as the “father” of all elections, he urged the Malays to unite and work together to support BN candidates to ensure the sustainability of the progress they have enjoyed thus far.
