KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said individuals should refrain from playing the religious card just to achieve their political goals.

Zahid, who is Umno acting deputy president, said political aspirations should take a back seat to religion.

“Instead, we should use politics to strengthen our religion,” he said when opening the Bukit Bintang Umno division delegates’ conference here today.

Present were Federal Territories Minister and BN and Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor, Deputy Home Affairs Minister and Pulai MP Nur Jazlan Mohamed and Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister and Pontian MP Ahmad Maslan.

On a separate matter, Zahid lamented that the culture of hate and revenge in politics was taking a turn for the worse.

“We can be enemies, but there is a limit.”
