Umno, PPBM youth wings clash over ‘Nothing to Hide 2.0’

KUALA LUMPUR: The atmosphere at Sunway Putra Mall here turned chaotic this afternoon when almost 200 Umno Youth members became involved in a scuffle with members of the PPBM youth wing.

The chaos grew to a point where the police were forced to intervene while the PPBM Youth members sought shelter in the mall.

The altercation between the two groups began at around 2.30pm, when PPBM Youth members were about to make their way from the mall to the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

They were planning to hand over a “special invite” to Umno president Najib Razak to their “Nothing to Hide 2.0” forum next month.

But before they could even leave the Starbucks where they had been having lunch, they were surprised by a group of Umno Youth members who refused to allow them to leave the premises.

A scuffle subsequently ensued.

PPBM members claimed they were punched and kicked, but this was denied by Umno Youth members who said there was only pushing and shoving involved.

The police managed to break up the scuffle and escorted the PPBM members to an unknown location. The Umno Youth members then made their way into the mall in search of PPBM Youth members inside.

Although nothing came of their efforts, they nonetheless shouted “1-0 to us”.

They then marched to the PWTC where they cheered and congratulated one another.

“Next time, before they dare come to our house, they should prepare themselves!” one of the group’s leaders proclaimed into a microphone.

Umno National Youth exco Armand Azhar said the men had been courageous and had made the party proud.

Last week, PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad invited Najib to the second “Nothing to Hide” forum, saying the two could have a discussion on how the former prime minister had enriched his children as well as how Najib had RM2.6 billion in his personal accounts.

Although Najib has yet to respond to Mahathir’s invitation, Umno leaders have spoken on his behalf.

They said that Najib, as the leader of the country, need not waste his time by attending the forum as whatever he said there would be dismissed anyway.

The first “Nothing To Hide” forum was held on June 5, 2015, at the Umno headquarters.

Najib had been slated to attend the event and address public queries, but the forum was subsequently cancelled after Mahathir showed up to speak without invitation.
