Malaysia’s astronaut over the moon with birth of twins

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian astronaut Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor is over the moon with the birth of his twin boys.

The arrival of the twins was a double joy for the family as it was also his birthday, reported the New Straits Times.

The 45-year-old and his wife Dr Halina Mohd Yunos welcomed the two boys into the world on Thursday morning, he announced on his Facebook page yesterday.

“Thank you for all the birthday wishes. We are grateful to receive the arrival of our twin boys this morning at 10.05am (Thursdays),” he posted on Facebook.

The astronaut and Dr Halina were married in 2010.

The couple have two older daughters, Sophea Isabella and Sophea Natasha, aged 6 and 4, respectively.

The orthopaedic surgeon became Malaysia’s first astronaut after he travelled to space on board the Russian rocket Soyuz TMA-11 to the International Space Station where he spent nine days conducting scientific experiments.
