KUALA LUMPUR: A group of 20 PPBM Youth members held a protest outside Parliament House today, condemning Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for revealing the identity card (IC) information of their chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The group, which represented PPBM Youth of Selangor and the Federal Territory, accused Zahid of being a liar and a racist, for digging up Mahathir’s Indian lineage.
They carried placards which, among other jibes, denounced Zahid as a “liar”, “slanderer” and “racist”. Other placards read “Reject Umno” and “Zahid desperate to topple Najib, Umno in turmoil”.
Last Sunday, Zahid, who is acting Umno deputy president, revealed to delegates of the Kelana Jaya Umno division meeting that Mahathir’s IC carried the name “Mahathir a/l Iskandar Kutty.
The “a/l” stands for “anak lelaki” which in Malay means “son of”, and is commonly used in the official naming of Malaysians of Indian ethnicity.
Zahid also said that Mahathir, who was prime minister for 22 years, was “the man who struggled for the Malay agenda” once but was actually “using the Malays”.
He said he received the image of Mahathir’s IC from National Registration Department director-general Yazid Ramli.
It was later revealed however that Iskandar, was the name of Mahathir’s grandfather, not father.
The protesters today demanded that Zahid and Yazid apologise to Mahathir for their actions.
“Zahid also should apologise to all Malaysians for insulting and spreading false information on Dr Mahathir’s ancestry,” said Federal Territory PPBM Youth chief Zahin Zainal.
The protesters also censured Yazid for revealing details of Mahathir’s IC and called for a special inquiry into his action.
Zahin advised Zahid to take part in the “Nothing To Hide 2.0” forum organised by PBBM Youth on Aug 13 where he would have the opportunity to expose all the personal details of Mahathir to the public.
