GEORGE TOWN: A four-month-old baby boy died after he was suspected to have suffocated earlier this morning while lying on a side pillow.
Faris Rayyan Qhumainy Faizul was found dead by his mother at about 7am.
Police investigators say the baby’s father had changed his diaper at 4.30am and had placed him back in the cot.
His mother, who had come to check on him at about 7am, found the toddler lifeless.
The couple then rushed the baby to the Balik Pulau Hospital, where the infant was declared dead on arrival.
The boy’s mother suspected her baby had died of suffocation after her husband placed a pillow to support one side of the baby’s head.
She felt the baby could have turned towards the pillow, blocking his nose.
Southwest district police chief Superintendent A Anbalagan said a post-mortem revealed Faris had died due to “unexpected sudden infant death”.
Utusan Malaysia reported baby Faris was buried at the Teluk Kumbar Mosque cemetery today.
