KUALA LUMPUR: Mara has completed its internal investigation into alleged graft and abuse of power involving its former chairman Annuar Musa.
The investigation report was given last month to Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob who oversees the agency, said outgoing interim chairman Yusof Yacob.
“For further action, we leave the matter to the minister,” he said today.
The allegations concerned the sponsorship of the Kelantan football team by Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB), a subsidiary of Mara also chaired by Annuar.
Annuar, who was president of Kelantan Football Association until November 2016, was suspended from both the Mara and PMB posts during the investigation.
He was appointed Mara chairman on July 19, 2013. A 2-year extension of the contract expired on Aug 11 this year.
Annuar, the Umno information chief and MP for Ketereh, came under investigation earlier this year after Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim accused him of abusing his position at Mara to force PMB to sponsor the football team along with Universiti Kuala Lumpur.
Yusof, appointed as the interim chairman from February to last month, was speaking to reporters during a ceremony to hand over his duties to the new Mara chairman Awang Adek.
Awang’s appointment as chairman took effect on Sept 1.
Asked if Annuar was called for questioning during the probe, Yusof said he was interviewed by Mara.
He said the Mara investigation was carried out independently from another probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency against Annuar.
