JEMPOL: Police have detained a Form Four student following a report that his Form Three schoolmate had given birth in the surau of the school in Bandar Baru Serting, Jempol, on Tuesday morning.

Acting Jempol OCPD Azham Shah Azlan, in confirming this, said police were investigating the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code for statutory rape.

The Star reported that school authorities had earlier called the Jempol Hospital, in Negeri Sembilan, after the 15-year-old fainted in the surau.

Medical personnel who arrived minutes later found an infant – with the umbilical cord still intact – lying on the girl’s chest.

Mother and baby were then taken to the hospital for observation. Both are reported to be in healthy condition.

Last October, a Form Two student gave birth to a 3kg baby in Seremban. The girl’s 19-year-old boyfriend was arrested.

Parliament was recently told that there had been 13,272 cases of girls under 18 raped between 2010 and May 2017.
