PETALING JAYA: Two Navy personnel died after carrying out physical training in Sitiawan, Perak, on Friday afternoon.
The Star reported that Laskar Kelas 1 Mohd Baihaqi Nik Mat, 28, and Laskar Kelas 1 Muhammad Lailatulman Mohd Sukri, 26, died after complaining of exhaustion while conducting the physical training.
The duo, of the Sungai Wangi unit, were carrying out physical training according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), the Navy said in the statement.
According to the report, the two were experiencing vomiting, exhaustion and shortness of breath and were taken to a detention room to rest.
“The two were given initial treatment by staff at the detention room and an emergency call was made.”
They were pronounced dead by paramedics who arrived at about 3.15pm.
The Navy said initial checks by the doctor on duty showed that there was no sign of beating or physical abuse on the bodies of the two personnel.
“However, we cannot rule out any possibility of the real cause of the death,” it said, adding that police were investigating the case with full cooperation from the Navy.
The Navy said it had also formed a body to conduct an investigation to find out if there was any breach in the SOPs.
It would not compromise or protect those who breached procedures while carrying out their duties.
