KUALA LUMPUR: Police were forced to open fire at a 33-year-old man who evaded a police roadblock along Jalan Pinggir Zaaba, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, here, early today.
The suspect made a U-turn in his Honda City car at 2.15am just before the roadblock and was pursued by a police patrol car from the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters, said Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din.
He said the patrol car chased the suspect until the Kampung Kayu Ara area before he sped off to the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP).
“The car was driven against the flow of traffic towards Puchong before it rammed the road divider and stopped.
“The suspect tried to escape by climbing over the divider to enter the junction of Jalan SS2/75,” he said in a statement here.
Zani said a policeman fired a shot and hit the suspect in the back.
He said an investigation found that the suspect, who was sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre, had criminal records related to house break-ins and vehicle thefts, and that the Honda City had been reported stolen in Damansara.
