NILAI: In honour of the founder of the YTL Group of companies, Yeoh Tiong Lay, his family members jointly donated a total of RM8 million to 50 different organisations, schools, and associations
YTL Corp managing director Francis Yeoh, who is also his eldest son, said these donations served to commemorate his father’s passing and honour the latter’s legacy by remembering his philanthropic spirit and generous heart.
“We believe that these donations are a natural extension of my father’s legacy. He was always deeply passionate about philanthropy and devoted much of his time to serving many of these organisations.
“Supporting education has also always been very close to his heart as he wanted everyone to have access to higher education that he wasn’t able to receive.
“These organisations represent Malaysians from all walks of life, reflecting his deep love for the country and his lifetime commitment to building this nation. We hope this will honour his memory and life as we continue his legacy by living out the values he left behind,” he said in a statement here, today.
Representatives of 29 organisations were present at the funeral to collect the cheques from members of the family as part of the service. The rest of the donations will be donated directly at a later date.
Among the recipients were Chong Hwa Independent High School, Kuala Lumpur; Chung Hua High School, Seremban; Yayasan Tuanku Fauziah; Sekolah Menengah Chung Hua Klang, Selangor; Persatuan Pengakap Malaysia; Persatuan Untuk Orang Kurang Upaya Akal Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan; Badan Amal dan Kebajikan Tenaga Isteri-Isteri Menteri dan Timbalan Menteri (Bakti); and Persatuan Rumah Amal Cahaya Tengku Ampuan Rahimah.
