Chong Wei sends food, pillows to Penang flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Former world number one and Malaysia’s ace shuttler Lee Chong Wei took time off from his busy schedule to send aid to flood victims in Penang.

“Although I cannot be with them, I will help whenever and wherever I can. I received a message seeking help for the flood victims because whatever aid was provided was not enough.

“I have sent food and pillows to the affected areas. I hope such aid can ease the burden of the flood victims,” he said when met at the Malaysian Badminton Academy in Bukit Kiara, here, today.

As of noon today, flood victims were housed at 50 flood relief centres throughout the state. They comprised 7,294 people from 1,774 families.

Strong winds and continuous heavy rain have resulted in massive floods throughout Penang since last Saturday.

The floods have claimed seven lives in Penang.

Kedah and Perak have also been hit by floods.
