PETALING JAYA: Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos today accused the Selangor government of duping people by claiming to have built affordable housing at a site in Semenyih which he claims cannot be found.
He said Menteri Besar Azmin Ali was “fooling the people” by making promises to develop affordable homes under the state’s Rumah Selangorku scheme.
He added that the state executive councillor for housing, building management and urban living, Iskandar Abdul Samad, was no different as he had told the state assembly today that the houses in Semenyih had been completed, with only the keys left to hand over to buyers.
“They have ruled Selangor for two terms already.
“Where are the Rumah Selangorku houses?” he said at a demonstration outside a new gated luxury residential project called Eco Majestic in the area.
Dressed in a sarong, he said he would stay in a tent in front of the project’s entrance for three days and three nights to protest the state government’s apparent failure to complete the affordable homes in the area.
“Where is the Rumah Selangorku? It is like Azmin Ali’s pee,” he said, squirting water from a bottle.
Jamal said while he did not disagree with certain developers who constructed luxury homes, the state government should improve housing for the common people.
He said some of affordable houses had been resold while many people still waited for their units.
“They have not even seen their homes that were promised,” he said.
He also alleged that some state executive councillors had received units from a project in Semenyih.
He added that he was planning to report the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission with the relevant information and proof in the near future.
The state government was reported to have promoted the Rumah Selangorku scheme by touting apartments, townhouses and terrace houses, with prices ranging from RM42,000 to RM250,000.
Meanwhile, EcoWorld’s chief operating officer S Rajoo denied Jamal’s allegation that 12,862 units of state-approved houses would be built by EcoWorld.
He said out of the 6,431 units, 50% consisted of affordable homes, priced from RM42,000 to RM220,000, under the Selangorku housing scheme.
He said he welcomed any party, including Jamal, to investigate EcoWorld and housing projects built by the company.
