PETALING JAYA: A prominent UAE newspaper has named Malaysia as one of the top 10 countries in the world for medical tourism.
Malaysia was cited as providing excellent value for money when comparing the costs of medical treatment to those of other Southeast Asian countries.
The report in The National also said patients were made to feel very comfortable, and that Malaysian hospital rooms were luxurious.
Many medical tourists in Malaysia are from Singapore, because of the relatively lower medical costs as compared to their home country, as well as the Middle East, because of the relative ease in adapting to the Muslim-majority culture.
This is not the first time that Malaysia has been recognised internationally for its success in medical tourism.
In April, Malaysia was awarded the title of “Destination of the Year” at the International Medical Travel Journal Awards. It was the third consecutive year that Malaysia had received the award.
At the same awards ceremony, two Malaysian private hospitals, Sunway Medical Centre and TMC Fertility Centre, won four awards between them.
Malaysia was also named “Public Private Partnership Medical Travel Destination of the Year” at the 8th Annual World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress.
