KUALA LUMPUR: Umno will help Barisan Nasional regain its two-thirds parliamentary majority in the next general election (GE14), says Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Umno number two said the party will launch a strategic approach for each wing to work towards making this goal come true.
“I have pitched a strategic approach for each wing to ensure a landslide victory in the next general election that will help BN get its two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
“In GE14, we have set big goals. We do not want a win just to form the government with a simple majority through the first-past-the-post system,” he said during the opening of the the youth, women and Puteri Umno wings at PWTC here today.
Zahid, who is also home minister, called for Umno to mobilise the election machinery to maximum effect.
“One vote for BN means one vote for the formation of a reliable and responsible federal government.
“Therefore, we need to understand the emotional needs, wants and appetites of our target audience,” he said, adding that he will lead a nationwide tour to get the BN machinery up and running.
Having mentioned part of the party’s plans to face the opposition, Zahid said the rest of the plan will be revealed during the nationwide tour, in which he will be joined by Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor and other party leaders.
