Opposition using news portals to spread lies, says Umno Youth leader

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno leader today claimed that the opposition was making use of certain media, including news portals, to spread lies and insults.

Razlan Rafii, the Federal Territories Youth chief, said when Umno raised certain issues in the past, the opposition had used news portals to speak out against these.

Razlan went on to give as an example, the allegation that 40,000 Bangladeshi phantom voters had been brought in to help the Barisan Nasional secure a win in the 13th general election, which, he said, had fooled many Malaysians.

The Bangladesh High Commission later refuted the claim.

Razlan’s attack on the news portals came barely an hour after Tasek Gelugor Umno division youth chief Nashrol Hisham Abdullah had called on the government to investigate The Malaysian Insight for allegedly insulting the country’s leaders in its recent news reports.

Razlan lamented that unlike before, Malay-related issues could not be featured in newspapers and television.
