Johor PAS lodges report over Mahathir’s speech

JOHOR BAHRU: Johor PAS today lodged a police report against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over a speech linking the party to the Memali event.

The report was made by the state PAS information chief Shamsudin Jaafar at the Johor Bahru Selatan district police headquarters this afternoon.

Shamsudin claimed the statement by the PPBM chairman at the party’s inaugural annual general meeting in Shah Alam two days ago, was malicious and a slander against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

“Mahathir once again tried to link the bloody event that took place in Memali with the ‘Amanat Haji Hadi’.

“Mahathir also tried to link the mufti as the cause of the bloody incident,” he told reporters after lodging the report accompanied by Johor PAS commissioner Abdullah Hussein.

Shamsudin said it was inappropriate for Mahathir to make such an accusation at the PAS president and the mufti without any proof.

“PAS is concerned with the malicious and defamatory statements as it can cause Malays to be divided, muftis not to be respected and all those involved in the Memali incident to be enemies,” he said.

The party also urged the government to immediately set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the incident.
