PETALING JAYA: The 2017 dividend rate for Employees Provident Fund (EPF) members will be announced on Sunday.
Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is also the Finance Minister, will make the announcement, Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) president Abdul Halim Mansor said today. Halim is a member of the EPF board.
The announcement, the first by Najib since he assumed the finance portfolio in 2008, will be keenly anticipated by the 14.72 million EPF members, of whom 6.83 million are active and still contributing.
The EPF reported a 5.13% increase in investment income to RM12.95 billion in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2017.
In the first quarter, investment income surged 74% to RM11.8 billion. It rose 36.6% to RM11.51 billion in the second quarter.
The EPF paid a 5.7% dividend for 2016, down from 6.40% in 2015 and 6.75% in 2014.
