PONTIAN: Three unemployed men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of a Road Transport Department (RTD) enforcement officer early last year.
The three men – Mohammad Khalifah Yahya, 24; Abdul Shukur Abdul Ghani, 26; and S Ragu, 38 – nodded after the charge was read out to them before Magistrate Azlan Bohari. No plea was recorded.
The court ordered the case to be transferred to the Johor Bahru High Court and fixed March 15 for mention for report on the victim’s post-mortem.
The three men were charged with jointly murdering Jaiman Sapar, 53, at a house in Kampung Parit Pak Intan, Kayu Ara Pasong, Pontian, at abut 1pm on Jan 27, 2017.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides the death sentence upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Baiduri Mustakim prosecuted, while the three accused were unrepresented.
Mohammad Khalifah, known for his nickname “Mat Dugong”, also faces three other charges for housebreaking and theft.
However, he pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to all three charges.
