KUALA LUMPUR: There are nine key thrusts contained in the manifesto of PAS’ pact, Gagasan Sejahtera, themed “Malaysia Sejahtera” (Prosperous Malaysia).
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the key thrusts were the formation of a government that is full of integrity, trustworthy and corruption-free; enhancement of disposable income; easing impact of rising inflation and cost of living; as well as reducing the income gap and distribution of economic wealth between the people in the urban and rural areas.
Also included are improving the quality of education to produce excellent human capital; harmonisation of the legal system and governance of country in accordance with shariah requirements; reaffirmation of the federalism concept by restoring certain rights of state governments; empowerment of the people’s voice in line with the concept of “shura” (consultation) and democratic practices; and improving the social support system for the needy.
The manifesto will be launched on Sunday at the premier lecture to be delivered by Gagasan chairman and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Other Gagasan leaders will be present for the launching at the Astana Banquet Hall, Cyberjaya, at 8.30pm, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said after the PAS central monthly meeting at the party’s headquarters here today.
Present were PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad and secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.
Tuan Ibrahim said the manifesto was drafted following discussions with Gagasan’s other strategic partners — Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) and Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa).
The term “Islamic state” would not be used directly in the manifesto but the contents would be in line with the provisions of the PAS constitution, which in general was to create a society that would live in harmony and obey God’s orders, he said.
