IPOH: Cosmetics millionaire Hasmiza Othman, better known as Datuk Seri Vida, has been ordered by the High Court here today to pay her income tax dues for five years, amounting to RM4.6 million, before this May 21.
This was recorded in an out-of-court settlement by Judicial Commissioner Anselm Charles Fernandis after lawyer Nor Hidayah Mohd Anas, representing the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) filed its demands in chambers.
In the IRB’s statement of claim, Hasmiza was required to pay the board RM4,686,435.79 in income tax for the assessment years between 2011 and 2015 in accordance with Subsection 91 (1) of the Income Tax Act 1967.
Vida, however, was not present in court. She was represented by her counsel, Zailan Mohamed.
Zailan, when met by reporters, said discussions would be held with the IRB to restructure the payments and his client would settle the payment within the stipulated period.
Meanwhile, Nor Hidayah said discussions had been held between IRB and Datuk Seri Vida, but the latter failed to comply with the terms on paying the tax in instalments, prompting IRB to resort to the court.
She said the case would proceed on May 21 if the beauty product founder failed to make the payment before the date.
