GEORGE TOWN: Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak has come out against a controversial massive land reclamation project proposed for Penang and pledged to “get rid of the project” if the BN is returned to power.
Penangites who are against reclamation projects in the state should vote for Barisan Nasional if they want the projects shelved, he said.
Najib said the federal government “was not agreeable” with the proposed three islands to be reclaimed in the waters off the south coast of Penang island.
The massive reclamation encompasses commercial and industrial development stretching across the span of the south coast.
It was proposed as a means to fund the state government’s RM27 billion Penang Transport Master Plan. It calls for a tunnel across the North Channel from the island to the mainland, and three new highways.
“We will get rid of this project if BN comes to rule in Penang. If you do not want reclamation, vote for BN,” Najib said today.
