Selangor Amanah election director quits party

Resignation letter from Jaafar Samsudin stated he was quitting Amanah to ‘focus on his family’.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Amanah election director Jaafar Samsudin has quit the party.

This was confirmed by Amanah communications director Khalid Samad after a picture of Jaafar’s purported resignation letter went viral.

“Unfortunately, it’s true. He has been a personal friend for the past 20 years. It is a big loss to the party.

“But we respect his wishes and thank him for all that he’s done, not just for the party but for the people of Kota Raja,” Khalid told FMT.

Jaafar was the Kota Raja Amanah division chief. Prior to the formation of Amanah in 2015, he had been the PAS division chief in the same area.

Khalid said he wasn’t sure of the exact reason for Jaafar’s sudden decision to resign from the party.

“I believe that it could be due to a personal misunderstanding. Closer to the election, there’s a lot of stress and tension.

“Maybe he felt disappointed that we aren’t contesting all the seats PAS did before or that we didn’t get more seats.”

According to the letter which went viral, Jaafar resigned with immediate notice, purportedly to focus on his family.

“I thank the party for having had faith in me to lead the Kota Raja division and for selecting me as the Selangor elections director.”

Earlier today, it was reported that Amanah would contest 10 state seats in Selangor.
