BN banks on new blood to wrest Kelantan

KOTA BHARU: Kelantan Barisan Nasional (BN) has beefed up its candidate line-up for the upcoming polls with 30 new faces joining its well-established names in a bid to wrest the state from PAS, which has been in power since 1990.

Leading the charge is state BN chairman Mustapa Mohamad, who will defend his Jeli parliamentary seat, spearheading four other incumbent MPs.

They are Umno information chief Annuar Musa (Ketereh), Tanah Merah Umno chief Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah), Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang) and Gua Musang Umno chief Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Gua Musang), who is a veteran party member.

Two new faces at the parliamentary level are entrepreneur Fikhran Hamshi Mohamad Fatmi, who will contest the Kota Bharu seat and Pasir Mas Umno Youth head Nor Azmawi Ab Rahman, for the Pasir Mas seat.

The list was announced by Kelantan BN secretary Hanafi Mamat during the presentation of the letters of candidacy by Mustapa here today.

At the state level, BN is fielding 28 new faces, including solitary MCA candidate Chua Hock Kuan in Kota Lama, Tumpat Umno committee member Hashim Mohamad (Kelaboran), Wan Mohd Sanusi Wan Yunus (Pasir Pekan), businessman Wan Shahrul Azuan Wan Ab Aziz (Kijang) and entrepreneur Mohamed Fareez Noor Amran (Chempaka).
