TELUK INTAN: Barisan Nasional should not take lightly the contest for the Batu parliamentary seat despite the rejection of PKR vice-president Tian Chua’s nomination yesterday, says Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong.
He said the battle for Batu was still a four-cornered fight among BN, PAS and two independent candidates.
“I read that Gerakan is said to have won one seat (Batu) following Tian Chua’s disqualification but I want to stress that BN has not won yet. We have a huge responsibility to ensure victory is ours on polling day.
“I have advised our candidate (Dominic Lau) to work harder for the Batu seat and continue the effort in the election, as anything can happen. Let the court and EC decide on Tian Chua while we still have a lot to do for the constituency,” he said.
The contest for Batu, Kuala Lumpur, is between Gerakan vice-president Dominic Lau Hoe Chai (BN), Azhar Yahya (PAS) and independent candidates V M Panjamothy Muthusamy and P Prabakaran
Tian Chua was disqualified because of a RM2,000 fine imposed for insulting a policeman.
