Malaysian students killed in Sumatra road crash

JAKARTA: Two Malaysian students were killed after their motorcycle was involved in a collision with a lorry in Pekanbaru, Sumatra, at about 3.30pm local time today.

According to a spokesman at the Malaysian embassy here, they were students of Universiti Islam Negeri Sultan Sharif Kasim, PekanBaru Riau, in northern Sumatera.

He identified the students as Mohamad Shaiful Bukhari Ammat , 25, and Ameer Hakimi Azman, 20, and said that the next of kin had been notified.

“Their motorcycle was reported to have hit the lorry which had stopped in the middle of a road in Pekanbaru town,” the spokesman said.

Ameer, from Penang, was reported to have died at 3.35pm. He was taken to the Rumah Sakit Aulia hospital in Pekanbaru.

Shaiful, from Sabah, died at the same hospital at 5pm while receiving treatment.
