JOHOR BAHRU: Former information minister Zainuddin Maidin said it was “mischievous” of DAP to put up a billboard featuring Rosmah Mansor in Yong Peng as part of its campaigning.
“She is not involved in the election. What they are trying to do is just to mislead people,” he said, adding that DAP may think roping in Rosmah will allow them to bring down her husband, Prime Minister Najib Razak.
He chided DAP for coming out with the billboard featuring Rosmah, Najib and incumbent Ayer Hitam MP Wee Ka Siong.
Earlier today, in a Facebook video, Election Commission (EC) officers are seen tearing down the election billboard.
The video was uploaded on Facebook by DAP’s Ayer Hitam candidate Liew Chin Tong.
Liew demanded that the EC officers explain why the billboard had to be taken down.
“Why is EC allowing billboards of MCA president Liow Tiong Lai shaking hands with Chinese President Xi Jinping, promoting the ‘One Belt One Road’ initiative? They did not ask it to be taken down,” he said, referring to MCA’s billboard in the Ayer Hitam constituency.
Wee had earlier criticised DAP’s move to use Rosmah on its poster and claimed there was a hidden agenda by the opposition.
Universiti Utara Malaysia’s (UUM) lecturer Azizudin Sani said politicians should be more responsible in their campaigns.
“They should avoid personal attacks and try to woo the voters with their policies instead,” he said.
Universiti Malaya’s Awang Azman Pawi said since the EC had ordered the Rosmah-related billboard to be taken down, they should also make the same order for MCA’s Xi-related billboards.
“EC should be fair to both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan,” he said, adding Xi also had nothing to do with the Malaysian election.
