PETALING JAYA: 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy wants opposition leaders to take a leaf from Nurul Izzah Anwar’s book when it comes to refraining from personal attacks.
Arul, who is also the CEO of the troubled investment fund, said the PKR vice-president “tries very hard” to direct her comments at policies, facts and opinions instead of individuals or personalities.
“I believe that is the right way for any opposition member or any critic,” he said in an interview with the Asian Correspondent.
“When attacking the issue, stick to the issue, stick to the facts. Present it in a rational, calm, and sure way. Don’t make it personal. Learn from Nurul.”
This comes just days after Arul urged politicians not to politicise issues related to 1MDB ahead of the general election.
He said political parties should debate based on facts or policies and not dwell on personal attacks.
“For instance, when PAS has questions about 1MDB, they invite me to give an explanation.”
However, he criticised DAP politicians whom he said called him “stupid”, “idiot” and “liar”.
“I am sad with this kind of politicking,” he added.
Arul, who has embarked on a nationwide road show to explain the 1MDB issue ahead of the polls, said the investment fund was a “business issue that became a political one, and then it went on to become a geopolitical issue”.
Calling his appointment in 1MDB in 2015 “the job that no one wanted”, he said the government had made the right decision in coming up with a rationalisation plan.
