PAGOH: More Felda settlers are switching their support from Barisan Nasional (BN) to Pakatan Harapan (PH) as polling day draws closer, says PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin.
The former deputy minister said during his visit to the Lenga Felda settlement here, he noticed that more settlers were coming out to meet Pakatan Harapan candidates.
Muhyiddin said PPBM had strategically placed its candidates in Felda areas.
“Many of the candidates we chose had experience handling the Felda settlers.
“There are 20 parliamentary seats with Felda settlers (out of the 54 parliamentary seats PPBM is contesting nationwide).
“I am confident that we can win the 20 seats,” he said.
When asked how he was planning to change the mindset of the settlers who were strong Umno supporters, Muhyiddin said change was already taking place.
“These Felda settlers, they suffer more than us. They are pressured on all sides due to loans and value of their land.
“They are very frustrated. Many have come out during our ceramahs and I see that as a good sign,” he said.
The Lenga Felda settlement in Pagoh is known as an Umno stronghold.
Muhyiddin will be defending the Pagoh seat which he won in the 2013 general election under a BN ticket with a 12,842-vote majority in a straight fight with PAS.
The party will also contest the state seats of Machap, Sri Medan, Bukit Pasir, Benut, Kempas, Kahang, Semarang, Bukit Kepong, Tanjung Puteri, Gambir, Parit Raja, Buloh Kasap, Permas, Bukit Permai, Puteri Wangsa, Tenang, Panti and Endau in Johor.
