KUALA LUMPUR: Batu incumbent Tian Chua says he will endorse any of the three non-BN candidates contesting the parliamentary seat if his court appeal to stand in the May 9 polls is rejected.
“I am not persuading anyone. I am not negotiating with anyone.
“If they want our support, they must subscribe to the PH agenda,” he told reporters during a Solidarity with Tian Chua session today.
He said he was not setting any deadline to get the endorsement.
“The offer is open from now,” he added.
He also asked his voters not to vote for Barisan Nasional if he can’t contest for the seat.
“We must teach BN and the Election Commission a lesson for using dirty tactics,” he said to loud applause from the packed crowd.
The Batu seat will see a fight between Gerakan’s Dominic Lau, representing BN, PAS’ Azhar Yahya and independent candidates P Prabakaran and VM Panjamothy.
The High Court today set Thursday, May 3, to decide whether the PKR vice-president is qualified to contest the Batu parliamentary seat in the May 9 polls.
The Batu incumbent, whose nomination last Saturday was disqualified by returning officer Anwar Mohd Zain on the grounds that he had been fined RM2,000 last month, filed an application today for a declaration on his eligibility, together with a certificate of urgency.
