
NARATHIWAT: The Thai immigration police chief has ordered his officers to tighten security at all entry points bordering Malaysia to track individuals who have dual citizenship.
Lt Gen Suttipong Wongpin said there was a possibility of individuals with dual citizenship using the border entrances ahead of the May 9 polls.
“Malaysia is now in election season, and there is a possibility of individuals having Thai and Malaysian dual citizenship using the border gates,” he told reporters after visiting immigration forces at the border gate in Sungai Golok, here.
Suttipong also visited the temporary jetties at Sungai Golok and observed the background checking system used by the Thai immigration on passport holders at border checkpoints.
He said through the system, they had managed to locate and detain several individuals who tried to escape from the authorities.
