PETALING JAYA: Three Johor state assemblymen from Umno have declared their intention to join PPBM, together with about 40 Umno members.

The three – Rosleli Jahari (Johor Lama), Alwiyah Talib (Endau) dan Rasman Ithnain (Sedili) said at a press conference this morning that they were making the move of their own free will.

Rosleli, speaking on their behalf, said: “We have made this decision for the sake of Malay unity and the people of Johor. As the people’s representatives, we will follow what the people want. We believe this is the best thing moving forward in the interests of the people.”

He also dismissed claims that the trio had betrayed the trust of all those who voted them in as Barisan Nasional candidates.

“The voters will understand as they voted us in to serve them with the new state government and this will help us to do that. How can we help to solve their woes if we are part of the state opposition?”

At a separate press conference, Johor PPBM secretary Osman Sapian welcomed the announcement by the three Umno assembly members. Their applications would be vetted according to standard procedure.

Yesterday Johor PH chairman Muhyiddin Yassin submitted the names of party nominees for the positions of menteri besar and state executive councillors

The three candidates for menteri besar are: Salahuddin Ayub (Amanah deputy president), Aminolhuda Hassan (Johor Amanah chairman) and Osman Sapian (Johor PPBM secretary).

Pakatan Harapan won 36 seats in the Johor legislative assembly, Barisan Nasional 19 and PAS one at Wednesday’s general election.
